Job summary
The Cards program is an initiative to re-invent the hosting model of Amazon's public facing retail website. We use containers in a native AWS environment to create a micro-CX based hosting model for our internal customers. We manage internal feature development by taking ownership of the hosting, availability and security of features, allowing customers to focus on what they do best: making amazing customer experiences. We scale these features individually, serving hundreds of thousands of transactions every second.

You will help us take our hosting model to the next level. This is a learning role, there are no reference implementations at our scale. You will drive investment in our future by integrating new and emergent AWS tooling and technologies. You'll invent interesting solutions to some of Amazon's hardest problems. You will simplify our Kubernetes/Istio/Envoy based architecture by inventing better management tooling, finding optimizations and improving our operations.

Key job responsibilities
  • Own the vision and execution of the next evolution of the Cards hosting platform
  • Write code to implement your solutions, mentor your team mates through implementation and work with cross-functional teams across Amazon to get the best possible solutions
  • Optimize the performance and improve the availability of the system to meet and exceed Amazon's Tier-1 guidelines

A day in the life
This is a wide-ranging role, on a given day you will be deep inside the Kubernetes cluster, reviewing open source code to find optimizations for availability. On another you will be finding architectural improvements that will simplify everyone's day-to-day efforts. You'll guide and mentor team mates and share your experience. Remote work is offered for this role.

About the team
The Cards team is a highly skilled specialty infrastructure team within the Amazon retail team. We created our Kubernetes-based hosting environment in response to our customers need to consolidate hosting in a central team, without slowing their pace of delivery. We value availability of our customers features above all else.Basic Qualifications
