A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified teaching assistant to provide daily phonic intervention support to children in Year 1 and 2 in a small primary school in Stalybridge (SK16)

The Role

The role will entail working alongside the class teacher to identify pupils most at need for additional daily phonic intervention. These pupils may have failed their previous phonic screening, currently working below age-related expectations or in need of catch-up revision sessions ready for their re-screening assessments later this year. Through providing short, phonic sessions of 20 minutes to small groups of 4-6 pupils alongside longer reading sessions, where children will apply their phonics learning, you will be expected to raise the attainment of targeted pupils.

The Teacher

Ideally, the school is looking for individuals with previous experience of providing phonics intervention to individual and groups of primary aged children. The school uses the Read, Write, Inc phonic scheme of learning therefore candidates with previous experience using this scheme will be advantageous however, experience of using Jolly Phonics, Letter and Sounds, Rocket Phonics or any other DfE validated systematic synthetic phonics programmes is also desirable. The school is committed to providing relevant training to upskill any employee to meet the needs of their curriculum.
