Associate RAN Engineer - Strategy & Architecture - ENG001967 The Associate RAN Engineer will have a general understanding of wireless communication principles and theories as they apply to the architecture, design and optimization of wireless networks. This position contributes to technical trials and evaluations of new RAN technologies and tools, working in cross-functional teams. The position also requires frequent collaboration with other technical and non-technical groups within UScellular.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Section 2
  • Provide technical support in the development and integration of new wireless technologies.
  • Participate on engineering projects that are national in scope.
  • Lead comprehensive technical studies, trials, and evaluations of new air interface technologies, infrastructure, and performance monitoring tools through lab and field testing.
  • Prepare and publish technical guidelines and results of technical studies.
  • Work with RAN vendors to evaluate and help create a roadmap for current and future RF technologies.
  • Develop link budgets.
  • Drive the continual improvement in the quality of the UScellular network by ensuring that only best-in-class RAN products are selected that delivers a superior network to our customers.
  • Work with other departments to determine root cause of customer-affecting issues.
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; or equivalent work or military experience.
  • 1-3 years professional experience wireless telecommunications.
  • Demonstrate basic technical aptitude in advanced technologies/disciplines such as. 4G and 5G.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new RAN technologies as they evolve.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of applied principles, practices, and procedures of wireless communications industry.
  • Basic understanding of data networks.
  • Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills, including lab support and troubleshooting expertise.
  • Possess strong desire to learn and contribute to the team.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with proven ability to explain complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Section 4 M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Vendor configuration experience using NetAct and EMS
  • Programming languages and automation tools such as Python, Matlab, and/or shell scripting
